A total work update
Monday December 17, 2007
I’m making a blog for my team at work (I’m the development team leader). The software we use at work is Wordpress, which I’m completely not fussed about, the problem is that I can’t add my own themes. I’ve been blocked! Lol. Well, not really, it’s just that because I’m not the main site admin, only the admin for my own blog I only have limited customisation options. It’s so disappointing.
I’m planning on launching the blog in January next year, once I have a little content. I’m hoping that it’ll foster a little bit of team spirit, as well as be a good place for the team to share ideas.
I have a lot of things that I want to do with my team. Hopefully 2008 will be the year to get them done. I really want to train the team to become something really great. There is a lot of good talent, but it’s really unfocused. Tight time frames and unmovable deliverables have really restricted the teams growth. For the remainder of this year I’m going to start brainstorming strategies to make help the team grow.

Speaking of work, the MD asked me to build what he calls a “gadget”. It’s pretty much a flash piece that you feed an XML file and it does something kind of interesting. Mine was a slideshow type thing – you could call it a simple version of a Powerpoint presentation. It was pretty cool, but building it has completely killed my drive to make a dynamic flash gallery. Sigh.
I really do dislike programming. This is why I can’t wait for next year. Next year, aside from the things I plan to do at work, I plan on sitting my certification exam and then I plan on job hunting. Job hunting for a non programming job. Unless my work wants to give me a job in the PMO that is. That would be OK.

Anyway, I had better be going. Got to shower and then I think I’ll head to bed. The summer cold season is in full swing and I do want to try and stay healthy.
Take care!

I dont like programming either. I dont want to sit in the corner and do programming 24/7 but in college I would rather program than write an essay. :)Good luck on finding a non programming position.

I am not in the programming world, but I can imagine how that can be something that one dislikes. I really hope that you can find a job that suits you next year! =)

I think I’d be way too impatient to do programming.
I hope you get the blog up for your team :)

You don’t get to use your own themes! That sucks! That’s my absolute favorite thing about Wordpress. Ugh. I guess looking at that hideous default layout will…grow on you? Well, the content is what’s really important. :) Good luck with getting all of your goals accomplished.

I hope everything works your way in 2008. Good luck getting a more design oriented and less programming oriented job next year.

Hey, how have you been? Long time, no talk! I see you’re working on a lot of new things for your job. I too am sorta being pulled into the designing, programming, & maintanence of our company website as well as a new employee login section. Not really what I signed up for, but hey. I hope it all goes well for you & you get or find the job you really want. Hope you’re having a good holiday season too! Well, it’s been a long time, but I finally have my site up & running again, so check it out & lemme know what you think of the new layout. Talk to ya soon!
