My disappointment in the world Today

Edit: The Australian posted a follow up to the article below… Click to read...
I just bought a Chai Latte from Boost. They make the best Chai Latte’s – even better than Starbucks, which if you ask me is saying something.

I read this really sad article in the the paper today, about a foster mother who took the child she was looking after, to the doctor. You really must read the article to find out just what makes me so… angry and sad…
I also read another article last week (sorry, no link) which said that the majority of Australian’s who suspect a child is being abused will say nothing, feeling that it isn’t their responsibility or that they feel the response to their concern will be ineffective.
I think that overall this is a damning statement on the state of the child welfare system in Australia. I know that my family has spoken to DOCS about out old neighbours and they did diddly. We also spoke to the police about our old neighbours, but we were pretty much told that until something serious happens (i.e. someone gets killed) there is not much that they can do.
I think that it’s really sad that the “War on Terror” can get so much funding and so much support, yet the children in our society can get so little.
And what does this say about us as a community?
I think that it shows just how much we (as a majority) don’t care for other people, when issues like Terrorism and Immigration Detention Centres can win elections, instead of child welfare, health and education.

that is horrifying and you’re right regarding the funding, it’s ridiculous nowadays, its like the politicians have forgotten about the future of our respective countries.

That article was horrifying. Human rights should be defined as being able to have access to proper medical care, not to be held under stringent and ridiculous rules.
“I think that it’s really sad that the “War on Terror” can get so much funding and so much support, yet the children in our society can get so little.” I agree so much. Why are people paying to damage instead of paying to build up a country that needs the funds more than ever?
This world.. it is in these moments where I can’t understand it. =/

I read the second article you posted and it made me so angry i couldnt finish reading it or look at the other. That is truely sick, how dare they say the child will become addicted to drugs because of the colour of her skin. Its not colour that dictates what you do its the society you are stuck with, the less money you are allowed the less opportunity you are given the worse off you will be. This isnt their fault its the governments fault for not heling them. Grrahhh it just boils my blood at how racist that is.
it ticks me off too that a so called war on terror, please its just a way to keep us scared so we dont rebel and think you know what we need better. how that gets more support than a poor child who needs care, governments in general need a good kick up the ass.

thats really sad that a welfare of a child is getting less attention than what? war and immigration issues?? thats just not right. We should care for the children because they will be the ones taking over when everyone passes. I feel bad for any child that is being abused. They shouldnt be going through that, they should get help and the unfortunate thing is that not many people will listen/care/ or believe them.

The second article is unbelievable! I don’t understand why they would punish that woman just for doing what was right. The child needed immediate medical attention and the family did what any concerned parent would do.
But I know where you’re coming from, about the ‘war on terror’ and funding and what not. I think they’re just magnifying this terrorism thing just to keep us scared and to prevent us from questioning the government any further.
And i agree that people don’t pay enough attention to the people and child welfare. My mom sometimes works on cases that deals with adoption, and her firm will sometimes place the kids in random homes; they don’t really pay attention to whether the family/environment is suitable for the child or not.

Wow.. that article. In fact both, that’s ridiculous. How could you not let someone know that an innocent child is being abused? In my mind that would make me feel just as guilty as the abuser for letting it carry on.. sheesh.
