Wrapping up the week
Friday February 22, 2008

I’m so sleeeeeeepy! It’s the end of a long week and while everyone else is out partying and celebrating the end of the week, I’m celebrating in traditional Skye style =) Sitting around and doing nothing important!

I just got off the phone to my Mum. Argh, she’s so frustrating. I asked her a while ago if she would like to come shopping with me to find a wedding dress tomorrow. She was so happy to be invited and to feel involved, but now she’s trying to control the whole day. I told her what I was intending to do, and she was so against half of the day I had planned I had to back track and just agree to do what she wanted.

And then she wonders why I don’t want her to be too involved.

And then I had to convince Mum that the cats weren’t over a year old yet. Sheesh! You’d think she would trust that I would know how old my own cats are. But no… she’s magically managed to add 6 months to their age…

I had a semi vent to my sister just now and I’m so glad she understands what I’m having to deal with. The difference between my sister and I though is that my sister would roll over and take the path of least resistance whereas I’ll kick and scream all the way. Sigh. Mothers. I think I need to move on with my issues =)

So what has happened since I last blogged? Not much!

  • I got good news that even though I’ve moved up into the next tax bracket, as of May this year the threshold will be moved, so I will move back down a bracket (yay!). This has made me feel very relieved. No more having to work out ways to offset my tax!
  • I went running twice this week, despite not feeling great. I actually feel accomplished because of this, and I think that the light exercise has been helping ward off full blown sickness. I know not to go all out because I’ll weaken my immune system, but it’s helping me breathe easier.
  • I got a compliment from my boss. That was nice =) Last year as you may or may not know, I was handed one of our most difficult client accounts and asked to manage it. We had a review at the start of this period with them where they slammed us (mostly due to the previous PMs bad job). We had a catch up this week and the turn around has been amazing. They have so much more confidence in us and are very happy with our work. I’m pretty pleased with that, although I know I wouldn’t have been able to do that without my amazing manager.
  • I lost weight. Actually, let’s pull out all the stops here. I am soooo thrilled that in two weeks I’ve lost 1 kilo. That might not sem like much to y’all, but it’s a truckload to me. I actually only need to lose about 6 kilos (12.6 pounds) to reach my target weight, but I think that when you’re close to your goal it’s harder to lose. I can actually see the difference. I love my doctor now. He was a total fool when it came to “girl” stuff, but he has redeemed himself =)

And that’s about it. I best be off. Have to go write down all the addresses of bridal shops I want to go to tomorrow and then I’ll probably go to bed. We girls need our beauty sleep!

Congrats on the upcoming nuptials! Mums great so excited about running the show and trying to organize everything. I know my mum did too. Just try and realize how excited she is for you, but ultimately it’s your day so you should do what makes you happy.
You’ve had so much good news lately. Losing weight, work, running (power to ya!) and taxes. You must be a very happy girl right about now. :)

Well, she’s got to even out her mom being over controlling and weird (of course you would know how old your cats are!) with awesome things.

Good luck on all of that, and congrats on the job well done!

And as to the beauty sleep, everyone knows that an urban legend.

I guess lots of moms are like that. They do things that irritate you, but they definitely care for you. For instance, lots of the times when my mom asks me a question, she doesn’t listen to the answer. Then, later on the same day, she asks me the same question.

Congrats on the compliment from your boss and losing weight. Keep it up!

Moms are so used to knowing best that sometimes it does get frustrating.

And in response to the comment you left me:
I didn’t purposefully exclude ie, and that is part of why I wanted to change the layout.. so that it would include that browser. I have no intention of alienating any audience.

Your mother reminds me of my grandfather and his sister. Both are usually pretty off on dates, but try to correct them and you might as well beat against a brick wall.

Sorry to hear that shopping with your mom wasn’t as fun as it could have been. I’ve never understood why people, when invited along, feel the need to dictate the events. I mean, you were a guest and invitee. Mind your manners!

I’m sorry your mom’s being difficult. I’m sure she just think she’s helping, and hopefully doesn’t mean anything negative by her behavior. It sounds like you just have to be assertive and firm in telling her how you feel. It’s your special day, and you want things your way. There is nothing at all wrong with that. I’m sure she’ll understand that. Hopefully. ^^ Good luck!
