New layout (oh no! again) and a quick health check
Saturday January 19, 2008

Oh my, so soon on the heels of the last one… new layout. The new year has been productive for me! I’m going to go through and fix up all of the oustanding/outdated page content/links, and also fix up the missing “stuff” (e.g. the despair.nu link) over the next day or two.

The last layout I loved, but I wanted something a little brighter. Hopefully I’ll be happier with this one. It’s really simple, which is what I like in a website…

I went to the Docs this morning to get my vaccination, get a prescription and chat about my general health and diet.

Well, I got my prescription, chatted generally about my health, decided that the doctor was a bit stupid and decided to put off the talk about diet (will wait for my regular doctor) and got my vaccination and an impromptu blood test.

I finally have the answer to a debate that has been raging for a long time between the 21-25 year old females in the office. The Gardasil vaccination hurts. It feels like having a Tetanus shot, but for longer. Ow.

I’m proud of myself though, because I’m mildly phobic of needles and I managed to sit through two today. I was a bit of a basket case beforehand, but I’m happy now.

Unfortunately the Gardasil vaccination is a course of three shots, so I’m going to need to go back two more times. Sigh.

I’ve also decided I have to loose 5-6 kilos before the wedding. I’m not by any means overweight, but I’m more than what I weighed three years ago and it’s making me feel puffy. Lol. It’s a little superficial I know, but the weight gain isn’t because it’s natural, it’s because I’ve been lazy and eating bad foods.

I’ll wait and see what my blood test says though… I think I’ll be very upset if I’m not healthy all around. Hehe.

A mish mash of a crap update
Monday November 26, 2007

Oh what a night! Actually, it’s more like, “oh what a wonderful lazy and looong night”. It’s only 11pm, but I’m cheering because I got home earlier than normal (around 6.15), had a quick-ish dinner and have had the rest of the night free!! Yay!!! Free!

I“ve been playing the DS non-stop (I’m a sucker for the kids games… really, I am) and I finally decided that before I go to bed I had better blog.

Vincent’s sister had a baby (first in the family) last Tuesday. Matthew is totally adorable! He looks like his Dad (and particularly like his Grandad). I don’t think I’ll post photos cos I don’t think his family would quite like it, but take it from me – he’s a cutie.

Last Thursday we went to visit in the hospital, and yesterday at home. I think Jennie is tired of all the visitors though. It must be hard to say “don’t come over” to all the well wishers, but I think she’s pretty exhausted now.

We’ve been paying out on my sister about when she’s going to have kids (the pressure from her in-laws is phenomenal). We shouldn’t, but it’s fun. Besides which, I get plenty of pressure from my future in-laws… spread the joy is what I say. Lol.

Sigh, my brain is all screwed up. It doesn’t want to work to help me write a cohesive blog entry, so deal with the disjointed-ness of this one.

Rilla, Flash isn’t really like PHP. It’s a multimedia authoring tool developed by Adobe. The prevalence of the Flash Player on the net means that it’s highly compatible on the web, on most systems, and you can publish exe’s which makes it even more portable…

Some might call it reinventing the wheel
Friday November 16, 2007

The fact that I hate those plugin photo galleries, and I’m kind of sick of seeing the same thing everywhere, has prompted me to make the decision to write my own Flash dynamic photo gallery. Sigh. The things I decide to do. I’m sure I’ll regret this later, when I realise I should have spent the time studying.

Last night was our work Christmas party – the theme was “beat the rush”, which is why we had it so early. It was fun though, quite a few clients turned up (I would say around 120), quite a few ex-employees (around 8 or 9) and then the rest of us.

Because the doors and lifts to the building and the office are locked after 6pm, we had to stand out in the foyer and let people in (and then buzz them up in the lift). My company being the kind of company it is, decided that all employees would either wear reindeer ears or Santa hats. This caused quite a lot of excitement amongst the other workers in our building who don’t work with us. Lol. Roz and I were standing downstairs at 5.45 and we were getting a hell of a lot of stairs.

Anyway, after the “foyer duties”, back at the party it was going “good”! The bar was well attended to, the catering was really good (as usual, although there wasn’t as much variety this year – maybe our budget was less) and the clients were enjoying themselves. We made them get involved in silly games, such as “bauble throwing” and “the blizzard room”. I think they enjoyed it.

The dramatic moment of the night was when we needed to call an ambulance because one of the clients had suddenly become ill (no, she hadn’t been drinking). She had cramps, and then she started throwing up, and after that she kept on blacking out. She looked terrible, and I hope she’s OK today. What was worse though, was when we learned that the ambulance stretcher did not fit in the lifts. Occupational Health and Safety issue anyone? The poor girl had to walk to the ambulance.

Other than that the rest of the evening was just nice =) I spent a lot of time talking to some ex-employees and some clients. It’s nice catching up with people on a non-work level.

Went home at around 10.30 (got stuck talking to the MD and some of his friends!!) and caught a taxi with a couple of ex-work colleagues. The taxi driver was such an idiot (hands on the wheel please!!) but at least we all got home in one piece.

Because of the late night the entire office only had to work half a day today. That is, we all had the morning off. Because I had to go to a client though, I worked this morning and had the afternoon off. I prefer it that way anyway – I don’t feel like I’ve wasted any time =) So today after I went to my clients, I went shopping (bought some Roxy denim shorts), had my hair cut (layers and thinned at the back) and went to the gym (my legs hurt now). I feel accomplished! Oh, and I also made Burritos. Yummo!

Anyway, better get programming. I hope I actually manage to see this little “project” all the way through. I have so many half finished things… wish me luck!
